Is Vela free?

Vela is free to download. Optional external AI services may require an API key or a subscription, with charges set by that provider.

What Mac do I need?

Vela runs on macOS 14 Sonoma or later. The universal Mac download supports both Apple Silicon and Intel.

Can I use AI without a cloud provider?

Yes. Vela includes local GGUF and MLX runtimes, and also connects to Ollama and LM Studio. You’ll need to download a compatible model and have enough memory to run it. Browser Control depends on the model’s ability to follow tool or action instructions.

Does the assistant control my browser automatically?

You choose when to enable Browser Control. If you ask it to use the browser while control is off, Vela offers an in-chat choice. You can stop a running task and clear queued messages.

What about iPhone and iPad?

Vela also has an iOS app with mobile browsing, profiles, themes, and iCloud sync. The App Store release is coming soon. This page currently offers the Mac download.
